The public hearing “EU Strategy for the Danube Region and its implementation in Ukraine” was held in Uzhgorod on 8 September 2014 in the framework of the project “Strengthening Civil Society Involvement in Assisting the Government with the Implementation of the EU Strategy for the Danube Region”.

The public hearing was aimed to make local stakeholders familiar with the EUSDR and the Action Plan focusing on institutional capacity building in the Ukrainian part of the Danube Region, as well as potential benefits for local communities of the Ukrainian part of the Danube Region. As a result of these events, information on the awareness of local stakeholders of the EUSDR was collected and their vision of its implementation in Ukraine was obtained. Information collected during the events and direct dialogue with local stakeholders made a significant contribution to the development of a Comprehensive vision of the EUSDR implementation in Ukraine.

The event gathered together 44 representatives of the Zakarpattia Regional State Administration, local and regional CSOs and development agencies, University of Uzhgorod, Uzhgorod Branch of the National Institute for Strategic Studies, academic institutions and independent experts.

High interest of local non-state actors to the possibilities of the EUSDR was noted during the event.

Due to the support from the Danube River Show project, co-funded by the State Ministry of Baden Württemberg and the Baden Württemberg Foundation, the Public Discussion involved three speakers from abroad:
